Improvement of Community Based-Protection Project
for Forcibly Displaced Population in the Northern Corridor
Ongoing Project: Improvement Community Protection for Forcibly Displaced Populations in the Northern Corridor – 2026
JASMAR Human Security Organization, in partnership with UNHCR, is continuing the implementation of the Enhancing Community Protection for Forcibly Displaced Populations along the Northern Corridor project across Wadi Halfa and Al-Dabbah localities in Northern State. The project aims to strengthen community-based protection mechanisms, improve access to protection services, and address the needs and vulnerabilities of refugees, internally displaced persons (IDPs), returnees, and host communities.
Ongoing activities include protection risk and vulnerability assessments, identification of individuals and households with specific protection needs, provision of individual psychosocial support (PSS), case management, and referrals to relevant service providers. The project continues to facilitate access to essential services through protection referrals, follow-up with service providers, and coordination with relevant humanitarian actors and government authorities. Particular attention is given to children, women, older persons, persons with disabilities, and other individuals facing heightened protection risks.
The project also continues to strengthen Community-Based Protection (CBP) mechanisms through community engagement, awareness-raising sessions, and collaboration with community protection networks and local stakeholders. Community Protection Networks support the identification of protection concerns, collection of community feedback, and promotion of community participation in protection activities. In addition, community consultations and awareness sessions address issues such as child protection, gender-based violence (GBV) prevention, child marriage, trafficking in persons, protection from sexual exploitation and abuse (PSEA), and access to available services.
Community-based protection structures, including Multi-Purpose Community Centres (MPCCs) and women's centres, continue to serve as platforms for community engagement, psychosocial support, recreational activities, awareness sessions, and the identification of individuals requiring specialized assistance. The project also maintains Community-Based Complaints and Feedback Mechanisms (CARM) in Abri and Al-Dabbah through multiple reporting channels, including telephone calls, SMS, WhatsApp, feedback boxes, help desks, and designated focal points. These mechanisms facilitate the safe submission of complaints, feedback, and suggestions, while promoting accountability, transparency, and meaningful community participation.
Furthermore, the project continues to support vulnerable households through assistance activities, including Individual Protection Assistance (IPA) and Multi-Purpose Cash Assistance (MPCA), in coordination with relevant stakeholders. These interventions aim to address identified protection needs, reduce vulnerabilities, and improve affected households' access to essential goods and services. Community feedback and protection monitoring findings continue to inform activity planning and the identification of emerging needs.
Coordination with UNHCR, the Humanitarian Aid Commission (HAC), the Commission of Refugees (COR), the Sudanese Red Crescent Society (SRCS), social welfare authorities, health service providers, and other humanitarian partners remains an ongoing component of implementation. The project also continues to conduct field visits, monitor protection concerns, document activities, maintain confidential case records, and prepare regular reports to support follow-up, service quality, and evidence-based planning.
The project is ongoing, with protection services, community engagement, assistance activities, coordination, and accountability mechanisms continuing across the targeted localities to strengthen the protective environment for forcibly displaced populations and host communities in Northern State.
