Kassala – Wad Al-Hilew Locality (Shagarab Camp): JASMAR Organization for Humanitarian Security, in partnership with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Guidance in Kassala State, has concluded a refresher training program for 20 facilitators of Alternative Learning Centers. The training was conducted as part of the Project to Improve Foundational Literacy Skills among Primary School Children from Refugee and Host Communities in Kassala State.

The training aimed to enhance the quality of education, strengthen the capacities of facilitators, and promote safe and effective teaching practices within Alternative Learning Centres, thereby contributing to a supportive and stimulating learning environment for children.

The project targets 10 Alternative Learning Centres located across Shagarab Camp and the surrounding host communities in Wad Al-Hilew Locality. It seeks to expand access to education, improve teaching practices, and enhance the quality of learning opportunities for children from both refugee and host communities.

The training covered several key topics, particularly learner-centred teaching methodologies, focusing on the use of modern, interactive approaches that place children at the centre of the learning process. These methods encourage critical thinking, active participation, and the development of essential learning and classroom interaction skills.

The program also addressed Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA), with a focus on raising awareness of the standards, safeguards, and procedures required to prevent such misconduct. This component also emphasized the responsibility of educational personnel to maintain a safe learning environment that protects children’s dignity and rights and safeguards their physical and psychological well-being.

The successful completion of this training reaffirms Jismar Organization for Humanitarian Security’s commitment, alongside its partners, to improving education quality, strengthening the capacities of personnel working in Alternative Learning Centres, and promoting safeguarding and child protection principles. These efforts contribute to ensuring that children have access to quality, safe, and inclusive education.
