Integrated Protection Measures for the Wellbeing of Children, Adolescents and Survivors of SGBV in Sudan

JASMAR Human Security Organization, in partnership with Plan International Sudan and with funding from the German Federal Foreign Office (GFFO), contributes to the humanitarian response to the ongoing crisis in Sudan through the project Integrated Protection Measures for the Wellbeing of Children, Adolescents and Survivors of SGBV in Sudan.

Humanitarian Response

Conflict and displacement in Sudan have increased protection risks for children, adolescents, women, and other vulnerable groups, including exposure to gender-based violence, psychosocial distress, and barriers to essential services. The project responds to these challenges by strengthening access to child protection, psychosocial support, and sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) prevention and response services, alongside life-saving assistance for vulnerable individuals and families.

In White Nile State, the project covers Goz Al-Salam IDP Camp in Kosti Locality, Al-Estad IDP Gathering Site in Rabak Locality, and Khor Ajoul IDP Camp in Al-Jabalain Locality. Its interventions include psychosocial support through mobile Child-Friendly Spaces (CFS), child protection and GBV awareness sessions, support to Community-Based Child Protection Committees (CBCPCs), consultations with adolescent girls and boys, and the provision of life-saving support and dignity and hygiene kits.

Project Objectives

The project aims to improve access to safe, inclusive, quality, and age- and gender-responsive child protection and SGBV services for conflict-affected children and adolescents, especially girls. It also seeks to strengthen community-based protection mechanisms, promote awareness of protection risks and available services, facilitate safe reporting and referral pathways, and address urgent needs through life-saving assistance and dignity and hygiene kits for vulnerable children, adolescents, women, and families.

Key Achievements

During the six-month project period, the following results were achieved in the targeted communities:

• Mobile Child-Friendly Spaces: Delivered community-based psychosocial support and recreational activities to children through mobile CFS services, reaching a total of 4,028 children—2,150 girls and 1,878 boys.

• Child Protection and GBV Awareness: Conducted five awareness sessions, reaching 373 participants, including 293 women and girls and 80 men, adolescent boys, and community leaders.

• Community-Based Protection: Supported three Community-Based Child Protection Committees, comprising 50 members, with essential working materials to strengthen community mobilization, protection risk identification, reporting, referrals, and coordination.

• Life-Saving Support: Supported 17 groups, reaching 102 girls and adolescent girls with food baskets and essential non-food items to address urgent needs and strengthen household coping mechanisms.

• Dignity and Hygiene Kits: Distributed 165 dignity kits to adolescent girls and women of reproductive age at heightened risk of protection concerns, alongside 42 hygiene kits for adolescent boys exposed to protection risks.

Through these interventions, the project has contributed to strengthening community-based protection, improving awareness of protection risks and available services, and supporting conflict- and displacement-affected children, adolescents, women, and families to meet essential needs while promoting dignity, safety, and well-being.
